James is a British artist working in the figurative tradition. He uses a modified painting technique that includes elements dating back to the 17th century. He handcrafts all the materials within his studio. From oil paints, waxes, and glues to varnishes, canvases and stretches – all is hand-made.
He prepares the colours from the purest pigments, deliberately keeping to a limited palette as used by painters from 1600 to 1750.
